What the site is

Hanzi Heard publishes general information about learning Mandarin, and about choosing courses, tools, and language preparation for travel or study. It is an independent publication. It is not a language school, not your teacher, and not an agent for any school, airline, or government.

Pages can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Official rules for a product, a price, a school, or a border authority control over anything written here. Check the source named on the page, and the date we say we read it.

What we are not advising you on

• Immigration, visas, entry rules, or whether an application will be approved.
• Whether you will reach a level of fluency or pass HSK or any other exam.
• Medical, financial, or legal decisions.

Nothing on the site creates a professional relationship. If you need advice about your own application or your own rights, ask a qualified person who can look at your case.

Your use of the site

You may read the pages and link to them. You may not scrape the site in a way that degrades it for other readers, break security, or present our pages as yours. You are responsible for the email you send us.

Intellectual property

The text, the seal, and the arrangement of the site are owned by the publisher of Hanzi Heard, except where a page quotes someone else. Those quotations remain the property of their authors and are used for comment and criticism. You may quote a short passage with a link to the page. You may not republish a whole page, a whole essay, or the site’s design as your own.

Commercial links

Some future pages may link to a course, an app, or a teacher platform that pays a commission. As of September 28, 2026, the published pages do not. When a commission is possible, the page will say so, and the affiliate disclosure applies. A commission does not buy a conclusion. See the editorial policy.

Disclaimer

The site is provided as is and as available. We disclaim warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement to the extent the law allows. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or free of errors.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, the publisher is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, arising from your use of the site or from reliance on a page. Where a limit is not allowed, liability is limited to the minimum the law requires. Some places do not allow these limits; in those places, the limit applies only as far as it legally can.

We may update these terms by posting a new version on this page and changing the date. The version on this URL is the one that applies.

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. We do not name a state court here, because this page does not invent a venue. If a dispute cannot be resolved by writing to hello@hanziheard.com, it will be handled by a court that has jurisdiction.
