Pronunciation

A speaking app can tell you that it heard something like the prompt. A person listening can tell you whether the tones were the ones you meant. This shelf exists because those two answers get sold as the same product.

Start with the research note if you want the mechanism. Start with the sentence bank if you already have an app open and want two takes of the same line. Neither page is a course, and neither one ranks tone apps.

How to use the two pages

If you arrived from a search for a Chinese tone checker, read the note first. It will tell you what the score can mean. Then open the bank and run the contrast on one sentence you already practice. If both takes pass, you have learned something about the tool, not about your third tone.

If you arrived from an app that just marked you red, do not rerecord twenty times yet. Say the line as written, then say the same-tone trap. The sentence bank writes both versions out so you are not inventing the second take under pressure.

What is not here yet

A pinyin primer, a listening page that asks you only to hear a pair, and a recorded contrast run by this site are still unwritten. Until they exist, this shelf will not pretend they do. The rule for a later test is in the editorial policy.
