Privacy policy
A plain account of a site that, as published, does not run ads, an analytics product, or a newsletter.

Hanzi Heard (“we”) publishes hanziheard.com. This policy explains what information the site processes, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. Questions go to hello@hanziheard.com.
The short version
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not run third-party display advertising, and we do not use Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, or a newsletter service on the site as published.
- Cloudflare serves the site and processes connection data, including IP address, so the pages can load and so abuse can be resisted.
- If you email us, we use that message to reply, and we keep the thread for that purpose.
- There is no account, no payment form, and no cookie banner, because there is no non-essential cookie choice to make. If that changes, this page changes first.
Who we are
Hanzi Heard is an independent publication operated from the United States. For readers in the EU, the UK, or a country with a similar law, the publisher of this site is the controller of the personal information described here.

Information you give us
If you email hello@hanziheard.com, we receive your email address, the contents of the message, and our reply. We do not ask you to create an account, and the published site has no comment box and no mailing list.
Information collected when you visit
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. When your browser requests a page, Cloudflare processes standard connection data: IP address, user agent, the URL requested, and the time of the request. That processing is part of delivering the site and protecting it. Their own description is in the Cloudflare privacy policy.
We have not installed a separate analytics tag. We do not receive a report of your scroll depth, mouse path, or a profile built for advertising.
Cookies
We do not set analytics cookies or advertising cookies. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary cookie when it is defending the site against abuse. We do not use that cookie to recognize you on other websites.
Because there is no non-essential cookie, the site does not show a consent banner. If we later add a tool that sets one, we will update this policy and ask before that tool runs.
The published pages do not contain affiliate links. If a later page does, the merchant or its network may set its own cookie after you click, under that company’s policy. We would not receive your card number or the contents of the order. Any such page will say that a commercial relationship exists. See the affiliate disclosure.
Why we use this information
- To serve the pages and keep the site from being abused.
- To answer email you send us.
- To comply with law, if a valid request reaches us.
We do not use visitor information to sell advertising, and we do not sell or share personal information as those words are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act.
Legal bases
If a law such as the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, we rely on legitimate interests to deliver and secure the site, and on steps you take when you email us (either because you asked us to reply, or because replying is in our legitimate interests). Where a law requires a specific basis, we use that basis and say so if the purpose is new.
Who else processes it
As of September 28, 2026, the only vendor that processes visit data for us is Cloudflare (hosting, DNS, and security). If you email us, the message is handled by the mail provider that receives hello@hanziheard.com. We do not pass your information to an advertising network.
If we add a processor that changes this list in a material way, we will update this page and the date at the top.
International transfers
We operate from the United States. Cloudflare processes data in the United States and in other countries where it runs its network. If you visit from elsewhere, your connection data is processed in those places.
How long we keep it
Email is kept while the correspondence is active and for a period after, long enough to follow up on a correction or a complaint, and then deleted or reduced to what a legal obligation still requires. Connection logs are kept on Cloudflare’s schedule for security and operations, not on a separate archive of ours.
Children
The site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has emailed us, write to hello@hanziheard.com and we will delete the message.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold, to object to or restrict some processing, to withdraw consent where processing was based on consent, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. California residents may also ask for the categories of information collected and whether we sell or share it. Our answer on selling and sharing is no.
Email hello@hanziheard.com with the subject “Privacy request”. We may need enough detail to find the message or the record, and we aim to reply within 30 days. We will not discriminate against you for asking.
Browsers can send a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. The published site does not sell or share personal information and does not run cross-site advertising, so there is no sale to opt out of. We still read the request if you email it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date changes with it. The version on this URL is the one that applies.
